Every NFL team claims to have the best fans. Every fan base claims to be the best fan base.

When we began looking for data on how our fans were ranked, we came across this study by Forbes.com. Forbes ranked fan bases  on the following criteria:

  • Stadium attendance  (a combination of consecutive sell-outs and average percentage of season stadium capacity)
  • Television ratings (as provided by Nielsen)
  • Merchandise sales (per NFLShop.com)
  • Social media reach (a combination of Facebook likes and Twitter followers based on the team’s metro area population)
  • Fan club presence (based on the active number found online)

The latter two are weighted less than the former three elements in their final ranking.

The top 10 fan bases were

1. Cowboys

2. Green bay and Steelers (tie)

4. Patriots

5. Colts

6. Saints

7. Broncos

8. Bears

9. Ravens

10. Eagles.

The Seahawks ranked #23!

How do you feel about this? After all the years of dedication and loyalty is this really where the 12s deserve to be placed? Is this really how you judge a true fan base?

Let us know what you think!

I have to say that most of THOSE other fans don’t even know why they’re fans. We do! I’ll take 23rd on the list any day than not understanding why I’m a Cowboy fan (gag). Blind leading the blind on all of those other teams. I’m not a fan just because they’re always a winner or they’ve got all of the NFL’s money. I’m a Seahawk fan because I’ve been one for nearly 20 years now, struggling when they struggling and loving every minute of where and what they’re doing now. They are fun, smart, and wildly inspiring to be the best 12s around. Period.

Regardless of if I think it is “fair” or not, it is probably pretty accurate. Keeping in mind the fact these stats are pooled from years of data, Seahawks fans have only recently been more active. If we were just going off of this seasons numbers I’m sure we would be much higher!

      That’s a really good point!

I will agree with you, Josh. While the 12th man in Seattle has always been there for our Hawks, I would say we have only become super active in the last 10 or so years.

We’ve been pretty active since the superbowl, so yes, 10 years is about right.

I used to watch the Seahawks play their games from my grandfather’s season ticket perch in the old 200 level… at the kingdome… in the early 80′s. I was born and raised a die-hard hawks fan and went through all of the ups and downs since then… And there is no stopping that!!! I am a 12 to the core and no matter where we place on this list or any other… We know where we stand!!! THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD!!! We don’t need a jumbotron to tell us when to be loud!!! WE LIVE LOUD!!! SEAHAWKS 4EVER!!! Look out NFL… Here comes the BOOM!!!!

That’s right Ken…. if we look at the names of the teams in the top ten, we will notice one thing…….they are old, established teams of a lot more years than our Seahawks! Just sayin…

dont forget the Seahawks are a young team related to Cowboys and G.B
I started in the 70s watching them and i was11 so i agree with the poll but take it again after 10 years and im sure we will be top 10
